O Novo Global Express

O novo Global Express

New Global Express

According to the Montreal Gazette the Toronto Globe, and the Financial Post, Bombardier has given the go-ahead for a new super-size jet. Not many details have been revealed about the aircraft which could be called the Global Express II. However, sources declared that, inside the factory, the project is referred to as M170.

More on this aircraft is expected to be unveiled on October 18th at the NBAA. So far, we know that GE will be manufacturing the power-plant of the new jet. Also, this aircraft is expected to be a response to Gufstream’s G650. The G650 is due to enter in service in 2012 and it will be the fastest, longest range and biggest cabin super jet on the market. It will be 20% bigger than Bombardier’s Global XRS. It is no surprise that the Canadian manufacturer has decided to tap into this category of aircraft, where Gulfstream currently holds a monopoly.

Currently, there is much speculation regarding what kind of jet Bombardier will produce. Some analysts anticipate a stretched version of the Global XRS, while others bet on a new design, fresh from scratch. Certainly, the latter would imply larger developmental costs and hinder a first-to-market strategy.

Organized by ABAG (Brazil’s General Aviation Association), LABACE 2010, the 7th Latin America Business Aviation Conference, opened yesterday at Congonhas Airport in São Paulo, Brazil.

During the opening ceremony, ABAG’s director, Francisco Lyra, highlighted the important role played by general aviation for the country’s growth. Brazil hás the world’s 2nd largest fleet of GA aircraft. In Brazil, G.A. serves close to 75% of all major airports, as well 3,500 airfields.

Despite the growth of general aviation over the last decade, aeronautical infrastructure in Brasil remains insufficient, and outdated. Brazil needs not only more airports but also more general aviation terminals. Moreover, Brazil also needs more pilots.

The organizers of LABACE expected 15,000 visitors over the 3 days of the show. Yesterday alone, the show registered 9000 visitors.
